Devils Get Schneider From Canucks For Pick

The Devils dealt their ninth overall pick to the Canucks to acquire goaltender Cory Schneider, according to an ESPN.com report on Sunday. 

Schneider will likely serve as the heir apparent to Martin Brodeur, who has one year remaining on a two-year deal.

The Canucks selected center Bo Horvat with the acquired pick.

Rangers Trade Ferriero, Pick To Wild For Falk

Rangers President and GM Glen Sather announced today that the club has acquired defenseman Justin Falk from the Wild in exchange for forward Benn Ferriero and a sixth round pick (originally Columbus’) in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.

Falk, 24, registered three assists and 40 penalty minutes in 36 games with the Wild last season. He posted a plus or even rating in 27 of his 36 contests, and skated in his 100th career NHL game on March 27 against the Coyotes.

The Snowflake, Manitoba native has also skated in 189 AHL contests over three seasons with the Houston Aeros, registering six goals and 20 assists for 26 points.

Ferriero, 26, tallied one assist in four games with the Rangers last season. He was acquired by the Rangers from the Penguins in exchange for Chad Kolarik on January 24.

Avs Send Jones, O'Brien To Flames For Tanguay, Sarich

The Avalanche announced today that the team has acquired forward Alex Tanguay and defenseman Cory Sarich from the Flames in exchange for forward David Jones and defenseman Shane O’Brien.

“We are excited to have Alex back with the organization,” said Avalanche Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations Joe Sakic.  “He is coming off a solid season and his experience will be beneficial to our young players.  Cory is a veteran defenseman who will help our back end.”

Tanguay, 33, finished tied for third on the Flames in scoring this past season with 27 points in 40 games. 

Sarich, 34, has appeared in 915 games during his NHL career, totaling 148 points and 1,051 penalty minutes.  He dressed in 28 games for Calgary during this past season, recording two assists.

Ducks Trade Zolnierczyk To Pens For Grant

The Ducks announced today that the club has acquired defenseman Alex Grant from the Penguins in exchange for left wing Harry Zolnierczyk.

Grant, 24, appeared in 46 games for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the AHL in 2012-13. The blueliner earned 20 points with 73 penalty minutes, while pacing team defensemen in points-per-game (.43). 
 
Selected by Pittsburgh in the fourth round (118th overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft, Grant has scored 62 points with a +8 rating and 174 PIM in 125 career AHL games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. 

Zolnierczyk, 25, was acquired from the Flyers in exchange for left wing Jay Rosehill on Apr. 1, 2013. He appeared in nine games with Norfolk (AHL) following his acquisition, scoring 2 points with 14 PIM.

Kings Trade Bernier To Leafs For Frattin, Scrivens

The Kings have acquired forward Matt Frattin, goaltender Ben Scrivens and a second round draft selection from the Maple Leafs in exchange for goaltender Jonathan Bernier, Kings President/GM Dean Lombardi announced this morning.
 
Frattin this past season played in 25 regular season games with the Maple Leafs.  He recorded 13 points – including seven goals (three of which were game-winning goals) – and he enjoyed a plus-six rating.  
 
Scrivens this past season played in 20 games with the Maple Leafs.  He posted a 7-9-0 record, two shutouts, a 2.69 goals-against-average and a .915 save percentage.  
 
The second round draft selection acquired by the Kings as part of today’s trade will be in 2014 or 2015 (Toronto’s option).
 
Bernier joined the Kings when the club selected the netminder in the first round (11th overall) of the 2006 NHL Entry Draft.  He played in 62 career regular season games with the Kings (plus one postseason contest) and had a 29-20-6 record, a .912 save percentage, a 2.36 goals-against-average and six shutouts.

Predators Trade Butler To Panthers For Brennan

Predators President of Hockey Operations/GM David Poile announced today that the club has acquired defenseman TJ Brennan from the Panthers in exchange for forward Bobby Butler.

Brennan, 24, split the 2012-13 season between the Buffalo and Florida organizations, posting 10 points in 29 games with the Sabres and Panthers, and 35 points in 36 games with Rochester (AHL).  

Buffalo's first selection, 31st overall (second round), in the 2007 Entry Draft played three seasons in the QMJHL with St. John's and Montreal from 2006-07, totaling 116 points in 192 games and earning league rookie of the year honors in 2007.

Isles Send Streit To Flyers For Pick, Prospect

The Islanders have traded Mark Streit to the Flyers, giving the Flyers exclusive negotiating rights with the defenseman before he becomes an unrestricted free agent in July.

The move was announced Wednesday afternoon by both clubs.

In exchange for Streit, the Flyers sent back a fourth-round draft pick in 2014 and 24-year-old minor-league winger Shane Harper in the deal.

Stars Send Pick To Senators For Gonchar

The Stars acquired defenseman Sergei Gonchar from the Senators on Friday for a conditional sixth-round draft pick this year, according to an ESPN.com report.

Gonchar had 15 goals and 76 assists in 186 games over three seasons for the Senators.
